The Center for Teaching and the Good Life was glad to welcome Dr. Emmett Price to campus on February 17th and 19th, 2020, in partnership with Trinity’s History and Music departments.
Dr. Emmett Price serves as Professor of Worship, Church, and Culture; Dean of Chapel; and Executive Director of the Institute for the Black Christian Experience at Gordon Conwell Theological Seminary. Read below for brief descriptions of some of the gifts Dr. Price offered to Trinity during his visit.
Meeting with Diversity Scholars
Dr. Price joined Trinity’s Diversity Scholars to discuss tools for navigating the upcoming election year, shifts we see in the Church, and the pervasively individualistic way of thinking about identity.
Joined Dr. David Brodnax’s African American History Course
Conversation with the Theology Department & Students
Dr. Price joined the Theology department for a conversation on the question, “How should the American church be approaching race in our current context?”
Black History Month Lecture
Dr. Price offered Trinity’s Black History Month lecture, which is sponsored annually by Trinity’s History Department. Members of the Trinity community and the wider public were invited to attend Dr. Price’s lecture.
Dinner with Trinity’s Black Student Union
Trinity’s Black Student Union welcomed Dr. Price to join them for dinner and conversation surrounding “Implementing Change” – a conversation stemming from BSU’s commemoration of Martin Luther King Jr. Day, where they explored the theme “Let’s Go Higher.”
Meeting with Gospel Choir
Dr. Price joined Trinity’s Gospel Choir, directed by Prof. Nicole Saint-Victor, at their rehearsal to discuss Gospel music and its place in American culture.
Offered Chapel Meditation
Dr. Price was invited to offer the meditation at chapel on Wednesday, February 19. His meditation was entitled “Live Live” and based on John 10:10.
Lunch with Faculty and Staff
Dr. Price joined faculty and staff for lunch and conversation exploring the Center for Teaching and the Good Life’s guiding question, “How do we ensure our vision of the good life is accessible to all human beings?”
