The Center for Teaching and the Good Life was pleased to launch on Thursday, October 24th with a visit from Dr. Matt Croasmun. Dr. Croasmun serves as Associate Research Scholar, Director of the Life Worth Living Program at the Yale Center for Faith and Culture, and Lecturer of Divinity and Humanities at Yale University.
Trinity was delighted to welcome Dr. Croasmun, particularly in light of his work at Yale that engages the campus with the essential question, “What is a life worth living?” One component of that work takes the form of the popular “Life Worth Living” course, which is offered to Yale undergraduate students and equips them for the life-long process of answering that very question.
While on campus, Dr. Croasmun was able to engage with Trinity’s campus in a variety of ways –
Public Lecture
Dr. Croasmun offered a public lecture entitled “What’s Worth Wanting?” to faculty, staff, students, and community members.
Lunch with Faculty and Staff
Faculty and staff members were able to gather together with Dr. Croasmun to explore the question, “How do we ensure our vision of the good life is accessible to all human beings?” The Center is dedicated to continuing to explore this question and was grateful to launch in conversation with Dr. Croasmun, faculty, and staff members.
Teaching and the Good Life Conversation
Faculty and staff were invited to a conversation focused on how their varied work with students can be informed by themes of the “good life.” A particular emphasis was placed on the Thinking and Writing course type that is part of the new Foundations curriculum and has a special focus on themes surrounding the “good life.”
